How Offers Work
How Your Offer Is Calculated
No mystery math. Here is exactly how we price your gold and silver, and what percentage you receive.
The Formula
Melt value = weight × purity × live spot price.
Purity comes from the karat stamp. 14K gold is 58.5% gold, so a 20 gram 14K chain holds 11.7 grams of pure gold. At today’s price that chain has a melt value of —.
Your Payout Percentage
When you start from our calculator, our minimum offer is 70% of melt value. Most sellers receive about 80%. Larger lots and coins or bars can earn more. We never offer less than 60% of measured melt value.
Why Not 100%?
Spot is the price for pure, refined gold in bulk. Your items still have to be assayed, melted and refined. Every buyer pays a percentage of spot. The difference is that we publish ours.
